Reading about Education

1. The National Council on Teacher Quality has discovered that, "Learning Takes Time" (page 12). As you read, consider the following questions:

What was the purpose of a new database developed by the National Council onTeacher Quality? What did the portrait of America's 50 largest school districts show? According to the story, what are some examples of"disparity" among the school districts? What do researchers, and some members of Congress, suggest might change that disparity? How old is the idea of an extended school day? What state is setting up model extended-day programs? How do researchers suggest schools utilize the extra time? What concerns have been expressed?

Blog Response: What "inequities" did the group find? What impact might these inequities have on student learning? What are experts recommending?

2. Many of the young people featured in, "Iraq's Young Blood" (pages 24-34) have had disrupted educations. Notice examples in which learning was affected by violence, hatred or the movement of people. What advantages does school give to these students? How does its loss affect their lives and their futures? Consider the importance of school in your own life.

Blog Response: In writing, compare your life with those of young Iraqis. (75 words or more)

The inequities they did find is some school study more while some study less. the impact that is the differences in the education level between the students. they recommend to rather than slapping on an extra hour of reading and math , school should offer more science and music as well as project.

1. The purpose of the new data base was to give extra time of learning and teaching for Americans school. The portrait of American's 50 largest school showed a Gate Foundation-funded watchdog group. As examples of disparity, kids in Memphis got five weeks less than kids in Houston and a public school in urban Chicago students go for 5 hours and 45 minutes daily, while the New York City school day is 65 minutes longer. Within that researchers and some members of congress are expected to propose legislation that calls for the federal government to carve out to help schools come up with a plan for longer school, and this idea has been around for decades. Massachusetts 2020 is the state which is setting up modal extended day programs. After that the researchers suggest to offer more science, social studies, art and music rather than more hours in reading. About all that not everyone embraces the idea. Some parents say kids need their downtime, teachers worry about exhaustion, and distracts are concerned about additional cost and extra materials for projects and so on.

The question here which might come up with good or better solution is why don't the National Council try to make the other schools , as they found the best way to improve teachers quality and students skills , all together have the same advantage ? It's right that they trying their best to do the best , but still there's some mistakes , and they are easy to be solved , like studying hours , and going to school more earlier and later than the others for example. And what make it in a way of rethinking to correct it , that there was an idea that has been ignored since decades , that might find better and better right method .

2. It is too hard to stay still when someone come and try to take your home and kick you out of it. So when you look and heard about any country that had a war many questions come to your mind like why this fight has been started? These wars begin and as soon as finished, you'll see what they left behind of killing people and buildings damages such as houses, schools, and hospitals. So the people won't give up, they'll defend their land because that is their duty. With all what happen in Iraq become really hard for young Iraqis and that due to the war against Americans and the internal fights between Sunnis and Shiites. The murders in Iraq made the life bloody life which make kids stop their school and start training and joining militia which I've not faced yet and even carry a gun to be safe or to safe my relatives.I really feel sorry for the young Iraqis because of what they've faced in the past few years.

Of course a school is important in my own life, but I think it's should more important to those youths in Iraq. Because they really need to educate and understand that the life is not only war and blood, but it's beautiful life and we all need to work together to save it so we can live in peace.

Recently , Iragis students can't manipulate their future with this kind of miserable situation . My life comparing with their life is like the different between the earth and the sky. Iragis students don't have a clear future , and we can't even call them students who study in a school , and this if they have one, where the evil can be . tens of kids day after day die because of the crazy things that happen there. And school have to try so hard to make them forgive this fear and study normally so that the mind can be totally ready for the information to be added there.
